Fast Facts: Shipping to the US and EU — Policy Update

We’re updating shipping timelines and customs procedures for customers in the United States and European Union to improve transparency and ensure smoother deliveries during peak seasons. This post summarises key changes, new estimated lead times, customs responsibilities and tips to avoid delays.

Why we updated our policy

Recent changes in courier routes, increased parcel volumes and evolving customs checks have prompted us to revise our logistics approach so we can offer clearer expectations. Our goals are to reduce surprises at delivery and lower the number of parcels returned due to unpaid duties.

What’s new for the US

  • Estimated delivery: 7–14 business days for standard shipping, 3–6 business days for express options.
  • Customs and duties: For orders under $800 the payer is usually the recipient. We now provide an estimated customs duty calculator at checkout for popular states.
  • Tracking: Real-time tracking is available on express parcels. Standard parcels will receive a tracking link once the parcel reaches customs in the destination country.

What’s new for the EU

  • Estimated delivery: 5–10 business days standard, 2–4 business days express.
  • VAT and import handling: We offer delivery duties paid (DDP) at checkout for most EU countries to simplify the process. DDP ensures the price you pay includes VAT and duties, eliminating surprise charges at delivery.
  • Returns: Customers selecting DDP can return products to our UK warehouse under our standard returns policy. For non-DDP shipments, duties are non-refundable.

How to avoid delays

  • Provide accurate delivery addresses and contact numbers.
  • Consider DDP at checkout if you’re shipping to the EU to avoid customs hold-ups.
  • For high-value items or customised pieces, choose tracked shipping and allow extra lead time.

Support during busy seasons

During peak periods (late November through January), transit times can extend by several days. We recommend placing orders early and choosing express options for time-sensitive gifts. Our customer service team will proactively contact customers if customs or courier issues are expected to delay delivery.

"Transparency builds trust — that’s why we show estimated duties and realistic delivery times at checkout." — Logistics Manager

Contact and disputes

If you experience customs fees not noted at checkout or have a delivery dispute, contact our support team within 14 days of attempted delivery. We’ll work with carriers and customs brokers to investigate and advise next steps.

These updates should make ordering from Scots.Store more predictable for our international customers. We continue to review courier partnerships to find the best balance of speed, price and environmental impact.
